The wood used for this violin is exceptionally rare. Local Italian maple wood, also known as oppio, is almost impossible to find today. However, thanks to a cherished friendship with a local amateur violin maker, we were able to acquire a piece of this extraordinary, wellseasoned wood. Oppio is prized for its higher density and pronounced flames, which allow the violin maker to experiment with the thickness of the back without compromising stability. Its slightly grayish hue lends itself beautifully to antique-style interpretations, as evidenced by this instrument. The varnish of this violin features deep brown and red hues. Where the varnish is worn, the natural beauty of the raw materials shines through. The scroll boasts a strong profile and a distinctive wide second turn, adding even more personality to the instrument. The f-holes exhibit the characteristic Guadagnini oval-shaped eyes and are left unfluted, consistent with the original model. Additional key details include the open C-bouts and a wider body.
When it comes to sound, this violin is a standout. Its tone is broad and deep, with remarkable clarity and evenness across the strings.
This violin has already begun its journey and is currently in Japan. We hope that this special instrument will find a home where it will shine brightly, whether on stage or in orchestra pits.
