The process of building five instruments all from the same slap of wood has been gratifying but also challenging. But it gave us the opportunity to explore the extraordinary life and career of this great maker.

Instruments from Guadagnini's Piacenza period have distinct characteristics: the purfling is set close to the edge, the corners are narrow and pointed, the ff-holes are widely spaced, and the scrolls feature a narrow, straight back.

We have strived to capture all these details in this cello. The most striking feature is its scroll, where the curl extends well past the typical stopping point near twelve o'clock. The sound is both powerful and clear, providing the perfect foundation for the quintet.
